War of the Worlds

nope... this is not a movie review... so no spoilers in here... dun worry!

well... i do hafta say something abt the movie... think a few parts of the movie highlighted the sad fact of human nature and selfishness. even at times of an alien attack, ppl would rather kill each other to ensure their own safety and well-being than stand united together. To protect yourself and your loved ones, you would not hesitate to sacrifice others.

it's with great irony that i hafta see the same thing happening among ourselves just a few days after watching the movie.

Med fac is an extremely competitive environment. Now that we're in final year, i'm sad to say things will get uglier. ppl will be fighting for cases to clerk, tutors to give tutorials, procedures to watch or do in the wards, good clinic sessions to attend... so that we can ensure ourselves a pass in the MBBS.

as i type this, i'm hoping to reflect on my own behaviour and reprimand myself if i find myself deteriorating into that phase too. i think if i allow myself to sink into a selfish b*&$^, deprive others of a chance to learn, sacrifice the well-being of patients in the process of learning physical examination, keep notes to myself instead of share with everyone, keep all the good cases to myself, hog all the good clinic sessions... i should be wondering what kind of terrible doctor i'll end up to be.

so friends... pls give me a hand. if i ever show such signs, tap me on the shoulder n stop me from deteriorating into a monster.

and yet, human nature is such that "if someone else does that to me, i'll pay him back with his own coin!" it's really a vicious cycle isn't it? someone else steals your tutor, you steal their tutor too. someone else hides a good case from you, next time you make sure u dun tell him anything too. there is always this element of letting urself down if u allow urself to be a pushover.

haaaiii... golden rule of Confucius... "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." if only everybody lives by this rule...
