Sad to go...

geriatric medicine's gonna be over in 1 day's time... kinda sad to leave geriatric medicine. even though, it sounds like a dry n boring discipline but i actually had quite a lot of fun and learnt a lot of things during these 2 short weeks.

i think it's partly coz of our wonderful tutor! she is such a sweet lady, small n petite-looking but she's really strict on us. drills us on our clinical skills, ecg interpretation, cxr n axr reading, daily management of patients' problems... until i must say i really learnt much much more than i've ever done in any other posting. and the best is she doesn't intimidate me when she drills us! some tutors freak me out... i still remember a particular prof for my surgery posting. gosh... xuening n i practically shivered every morning before going for ward rounds with him.

think coz she seems so sincere in teaching us, i feel a bit upset whenever i can't answer her question or do something up to her expectations. haha! makes me wanna study and follow up a case more closely. and i'm really learning a lot more, by just understanding what they're doing in the wards... why they order a particular investigation or a prescribe a particular drug! i used to think ward rounds are pretty pointless... and tt's cos in the past, most doctors ignore us during ward rounds and don't bother explaining things to us. but for this geriatric posting, i actually look forward to ward rounds everyday! coz i actually learn stuff there! hai... so sad it's ending liao...

haha! she's so nice that i decided to approach her to mark my ethics case writeup. think some of my cgmates think it's a bad choice coz she's so strict. but i was thinking, "nevermind. i would rather haf someone who cares and bothers to mark my writeup properly." plus knowing that she's marking it, i'll tend to put in more effort and i may actually learn a great deal about ethics through this! everyone's thinking "aiya... wat ethics case writeup... a waste of time la..." haha... i shall change that into a positive experience and make sure i learn something outta it!

I feel the exact same way. Geriatric posting has really allowed me to understand more about the workings of the ward and I'm actually loving it. I look forward to ward rds too and really enjoy thinking of ways to help the patient recover.
