Ugly Singaporeans - part 2

As National Day gets nearer and nearer, my patriotism gets deeper n deeper. I love Singapore... i really do... i think it's a place i wanna live in, grow old in... want my kids to be born in, grow up in... Unfortunately, these few days i've been mopping around and scrutinizing... hai... i'm sad to announce i can't say the same towards some of its ppl. Maybe deep down i know Singapore can do better and should strive to do better... it can be as disciplined as Japan, be as friendly as Australia...

1) Yesterday a young lady was sleeping on the mrt and i stood in front of her. The umbrella she was holding slipped and fell onto my foot! Piak!! Ouch!! She opened her eyes, saw her umbrella on my foot, bent down to pick it up and went back to sleep. $%&#! What happened to the sorries that our parents or teachers taught us to say to our siblings or classmates last time? Isn't it common courtesy to say sorry if u accidentally cause hurt to someone?

2) We were queuing up for shuttle bus at NUH. strangely, the last row of the queue had 2 openings. When i was actually at the head of the last row (i.e. the wrong opening), this ah ma and ah peh came by and stood right next to us. I told them politely in mandarin "uncle... the queue doesn't start here. it starts behind there. there're a lot of ppl behind me liao." They looked and said "nevermind la. we're so old, just let us stand here la." HUH?!?!? old means can cut queue ah? what is this man? i wasn't quite happy abt it but i decided not to kick up too much of a fuss anyway.

3) I'm still extremely amazed at how ppl like to play with their ringtones in the public. What are they trying to show? that they have a hp? a polyphonic one somemore? that they're so hip n happening tt their ringtones are all pop songs? noise pollutants! (in Japan, there're no-hp signs on the train... not because of poor reception. the tiny print below the sign says "please do not disturb other passengers.")

4) SMRT has placed so many "please keep left" signs all over the escalators until it almost looks hideous! it's such a disgrace that right next to the sign, ppl are still standing on the right. Dunno how to read is it?!?! Can't even see the pictures?

5) and worse still... they can't even read yellow lines too! really idiotic looking u know... when those THICK FLASHY yellow lines are drawn all over the floor and ppl dun abide by them. what impression does it give foreigners or visitors?

6) Some absolutely LOVE squeezing into the train before ppl can get out too. Wah!! no common sense... if a bottle's so filled, u gotto let some stuff out before squeezing some more stuff in right? As if the train door's gonna close before u get ur chance to get in... please lor... e driver can see u using his camera! No seats left? stand a bit will die ah!

haha... some grievances there huh? i'm sure these are all too familiar occurrences for everyone. i'm not expecting too much, am i?

courtesy campaign, gracious society... all backfired huh? Is teaching basic courtesy and code of conduct the duty of the government in the first place? Shouldn't this be ingrained and trained in children when they're developing? Shouldn't it be the parents' jobs to cultivate good behaviours and habits in their children? Shouldn't parents rule by example?

Oh well... saw a parent allowing her child to stand on the mrt seat with his shoes on today... i have nothing more to say...

If it's any consolation, ignorance is running amuck all over the world. You can see some very similar rantings in my blog. I actually had to laugh about your limited tolerance to cell phone usage on public transit as I too went on a keyboard rampage about that very same thing entitled "The Battle to be Heard".
