A doggie year...

what does chinese new year mean to me? honestly... i no longer look forward to chinese new year the way i did when i was say 5-10 years old.

then, we dun get pretty new dresses any other day except on chinese new year! weeks before the new year, my mom'll bring us to a children's boutique and let us choose 3 outfits each. we would try lots n lots of clothes and finally settle for 3 sets. the next few weeks then became a torture cos we could only stare at our new clothes and wait patiently for new year to come so we can wear them. and u can imagine the excitement when the day finally comes!!

new year was also lots of fun! cos we get to see our cousins and play silly games together! better still, we can eat all the new year goodies without being scolded... cos bwahaha! it's unlucky to scold ppl on chinese new year. so we can get away with anything! how great... that some days are set aside to protect lil kids and let them have all the fun they want!

nowadays, our independence and spending power have increased and we can buy new clothes to wear at any time of the year (not that i'm complaining la). we meet up with our cousins during chinese new year just to chitchat on mundane topics like school, work, etc. as for new year goodies... haha! we can eat them any day of the year without our parents scolding us of course! in a way, chinese new year has lost its meaning... the meaning which we felt as kids.

hmm... i wonder how kids nowadays view chinese new year. is it as fun for them as how i felt it to be 15 years ago (15!!?!?!! *shreaking in horror*)?
