Life's meaning

I've been spending a substantial amount of my lifetime reading books and watching dramas. My friends will know how much i adore fiction! Most of the time, fiction is for entertainment and relaxation. If at the end of it, i learn something outta it, then double the joy!

It's such a coincidence that at this point in time, i'm engrossed in 1 book as well as 1 drama series which have been truly inspiring for the past few weeks... and made me realize a lot of things in life i've never thought about before.

The book i'm reading now is "Like the flowing river" by Paulo Coelho... a birthday present from my dearest fren. And i must really thank her for such a meaningful gift! it's a book of thoughts and reflections and it contains short passages of whatever popped into the author's path or mind. it's amazing!! cos every flip of the page leaves me with lotsa inspirations, wonder and sometimes even enlightenment! nowadays with my super slack schedule, i actually finish novels at lightning speed but this book is taking me ages to read cos i stop to ponder abt stuff here and there while reading it! absolutely recommended if u're lost in life, looking for meaning/satisfaction in life or just wants some inspiration to keep going!

Next, i'm addicted to a taiwanese drama called "Angel Lover" starring my favourite actor, ming dao! haha! wait... before u think this is just one of those ou xiang dramas which are brainless, full of actors who can't act, has a lousy script... u're wrong!! it may appear like tt erm... especially during the theme song where 5 shuai ge's are featured acting cool... but if u take some time to watch the series and think deeper as u watch, it's actually conveying lotsa impt messages about life and love.

I love the feeling when i read a passage or watch a touching moment in the drama. Sometimes my heart flutters and sometimes my eyes start welling with tears. most of the time, i take a deep breath close to tt of a gasp and then, smile thinking "wow! how wonderful!!" it's as though i've been tapped on the head by an angel and suddenly the road in front becomes clearer and brighter.

The drama's abt this group of appointed ppl who intrinsically have a passion for helping ppl in need. A real angel (haha... it is still fiction after all) goes around identifying ppl who have lost their ability to love or lost touch with the meaning of their existence. He then innocuously show these ppl the way to the group who will then find all sorts of ways to bring them back on track to find back their lost hearts and souls.

With little snippets of life stories, they portray different types of ppl who are lost in their own world. For example, a career woman gets forced to work 24/7 to support her family business after her father passed away and lost her smiles cos her life's got no more love in it anymore. Another example of an actress who got lost in the fancies and money-grubbing showbiz and lost her intrinsic innocence and integrity. With a lil help from this group of "angel lovers", they realized what they really need and want in life and became happier ppl subsequently.

Being in an industry where i see sick patients needing help everyday, i can't help but feel more strongly for the show. We often forget tt the job we do is a marvellous one. I somehow feel that in a way, just like those "angel lovers", we're handpicked and appointed to be the tools of angels so that our patients can receive the touch of an angel. Haha! i'm not trying to glorify myself or think of myself as an all-impt saint but for me, keeping such an analogy in mind helps me stay focussed and satisfied in my job! and to me, nothing's more impt than job satisfaction especially since at least a big half of my life revolves around my job.

With regards to love, i'm convinced time and again by the show and the book, the greatest thing in this world is LOVE. the love for yourself, your friends, your family, your job, your fellow human beings, your land, your country... and the list goes on. Love conquers all... i truly believe tt... if the love is there and strong enough. and life in itself seems to be a balance between our multiple loves, isn't it?
